
This policy brief aims was developed in partnership with TIPS and WWF South Africa. It aims to identify and clarify employment metrics used in South Africa’s electricity value chains. It provides a description of what metrics do and do not communication, as well as who uses them, any concerns, and their policy relevance. Figures reported by different actors (government, research organisations, etc.) are systematically listed. Additional issues concerning methodologies and assumptions, and data sources are also noted. Finally, this brief makes limited policy suggestions.
This policy brief is part of the Making Sense of Employment in South Africa’s Just Energy Transition project. TIPS and the WWF South Africa, with the support of GIZ, are implementing an initiative to support policymaking for South Africa’s just transition.
